Dental Exam and Cleanings
We recommend routine dental exam and dental cleanings every six months according to American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines, but we may want to see you more frequently if you have certain oral health issues such as gum disease. Routine dental cleanings will ensure that the surfaces of your teeth are smooth and free of tartar, which helps reduce your chances of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease. Your general dental care from North Garland Dental & Orthodontics will also include an oral cancer screening and an examination to check for signs of gum disease. Why? These two oral health problems often go undetected, and if allowed to progress, they can cause serious complications.
Should gum disease prove to be a problem, North Garland dentist Dr. Jonathan Kuipers can perform periodontal therapy to treat the onset of gum disease. Deep cleaning is used to treat the infected area and smoothing the tooth root. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and can also cause or exacerbate a serious health conditions. We reccomend seeing North Garland Dental if you see signs of gum disease including:
- Bad breath that won’t go away
- Red or swollen gums
- Tender or bleeding gums
- Painful chewing
- Loose teeth
- Sensitive teeth
- Receding gums or longer appearing teeth
